Since 1978, China’s economy has gone from poverty-level to the second highest GDP in the world. How has China freed itself from the shadow of the Cultural Revolution, turning the page to a bright new future? Deng Xiaoping, who led the ‘second generation’ leaders and was the architect of what would become New China, was integral in China’s rise. His theories inspired his people and his influence is seen everywhere in China today. This book collects his thoughts on a wide range of topics, including economics, politics, education, and science. This volume gives insight to scholars, researchers, and other interested readers into the great man’s thinking and, ultimately, modern China.
About the Author:
Deng Xiaoping (1904-1997) presided over the second generation of leaders of the Chinese Communist Party. Having led China out of the Cultural Revolution he was twice selected as Time Magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’. At the time of his death UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Deng was to be remembered "in the international community at large as a primary architect of China's modernization and dramatic economic development".
